Thinking outside the bun…

I have been very fortunate to be able to give back to Tante Marie in a number of ways since graduating and the most recent was to write a blog post for their school site. I received a call from Andrew, School Principle, saying that their social media agency wanted to do a Summer blog about the different foods that go well on a BBQ, but to also include some items that may not automatically be top of people’s list. My Return to Tante Marie

A little over 1 year after graduating from Tante Marie I received a request to return and give a cooking demonstration to the current intake of budding chefs. When Andrew (school Principle) asked me I was naturally very honoured and also a little nervous! The First Wedding Catered…

So it’s been 2 weeks since I catered my first wedding with 2 former classmates of mine. We were first asked back in July if we’d do the catering and I can remember our first meeting with the bride and groom to discuss what they wanted as if it was yesterday. I remember feeling excitedly nervous about the whole thing because we were discussing what would be our first big event. It’s Been A While, How Are You? Doing Well Here Thanks ;-)

It seems like forever since I sat down and typed a blog entry so I apologize. Part of the reason is that under my employment contract I had to sign a confidentiality contract so typing about anything work-related would have been a violation of that. Day 87 Celebration Lunch Exam

This was a day that I was looking forward to, while at the same time dreading! Looking forward to it because I wanted to get in the kitchen and cook a menu that I had created to fit a brief, but dreading the day because the 22nd of February was the day of the exam, as well as the day we had to hand in our coursework assignment! The assignment involved a lot of work over the weeks and months running up to the 22nd, so much so that we were given the project around mid-November. At the same time as this, I also had to create the menu for the Celebration Lunch exam, cost out the individual components and get them to fit into the Β£25 budget precisely, put together all of the paperwork to go along with the costings, recipes, etc, shop for the ingredients, oh and practice a few of the individual components! Once done though I knew that the only thing between me and graduation was the Final Practical exam the week after! πŸ™‚ Read the rest of this entry

What A Difference A Year Makes!

It’s been a bit of a funny old year. This weekend a year ago I was attending a friend’s wedding in Kelowna, Canada, and here I am this time this year, living in a house in Fulham, London. I had just handed in my 2 weeks notice on a job of 3 years and here I am having finished my third week of work at Absolute Taste. I was counting down the days to my flight back to the UK on May 22nd, knowing that I had a lot to fit in before boarding the plane and knowing that nothing could be missed off. I would celebrate my 30th birthday with family, and friends I had got to know during the 7 years I had lived in Canada. It’s quite a thought then that a year on I have just celebrated my 31st birthday solely with people I have met in the last 12 months. Read the rest of this entry
